TWP St George’s Hill moved back into 2nd place in the Southern Division of the Premier Squash League with a nail-biting victory against Covers Chichester at St George’s Hill tonight.
With the match beautifully poised at two all the number ones Daryl Selby and Robbie Temple gave the large crowd a match to savour. On an unusually cold court due to the building of a new all glass court at the club, both players looked for winning shots to end the high speed rallies. Selby at number 13 in the world was 50 places higher than his opponent who took a 2-1 lead with some adventurous shot making. Temple looked to have run out of ideas as Selby took the match into a deciding 5th and final game. It was Robbie Temple however that regained the initiative at the start of the 5th only to see Selby dig deep to claw his way back and take the game 11-8.
TWP St George’s Hill trail leaders Surrey Health and Fitness by three points as they bid for a semi finals place. The top two qualify for the semi finals. TWP take on Guildford Varsity in their next match at the newly built Varsity centre on Tuesday 16th February at 7pm.
