Stephen Nicholls – Business and Corporate Tax Director
Brief details of your education and what you achieved.
10 GCSE’s, A-level Accounting, Maths and Business Studies.
How did you hear about TWP?
I initially started at TWP carrying out some work experience when I was in my final year of A-level exams. After college, I applied for a trainee role at TWP and was thankfully accepted.
What was your training experience like with TWP?
TWP offered an excellent trainee package which gave me the opportunity to study and gain work experience at the same time. Since then, I have passed the ATT and CTA qualifications and am now a fully qualified Chartered Tax Adviser. All study was carried out with Tolley’s and paid for by TWP.
Overall, it took me between six and seven years to become fully qualified. After seven years, I progressed to become the manager of the department. More recently I have progressed to become a Director at the firm.
What do you like about your role?
I thoroughly enjoy the variety of work and being able to manage my own time/opportunity.
Developing and being responsible for my team is something that I find very rewarding. I have a capable team and seeing them progress in their roles is great.
Tell us more about working at TWP?
Working in a medium-sized firm is great because you get to know everyone on a personal level, and it’s a very friendly environment in the office.
TWP has many clients, both personal and corporate, allowing everyone to develop and progress through the wide variety of work we get involved with.
We have regular team afternoons away from the office where we share ideas/business updates. It’s helpful to have that time together out of the office environment so we can engage the team in our future planning.
The firm has a five-a-side football team that takes part in a local league, providing a great social environment after a busy day.
What career aspirations do you have?
I am keen to progress in my career and become a Partner at TWP, as this would offer a great opportunity to be involved in the future planning and direction of the practice.
